Problem Based Learning

Problem-Based Learning (PBL) is a curriculum development and  delivery system that recognizes the need to develop problem solving skills as well as the necessity of helping students to acquire necessary knowledge and skills.

My definition of PBL is teacher presents to students with a problem, not lectures or assignments or exercises. Since student are not handed content,  learning process  becomes active in the sense that student  discover and work with content that determine to be necessary to solve the problem. Student will work with group discuss and find out the solution with any sources. Teacher will act as facilitator to support and encourage or give ideas to student to complete the tasks. The goals of PBL are to help the students develop flexible knowledge, effective problem solving skills, self-directed learning, effective collaboration skills and intrinsic motivation. Working in groups, students identify what they already know, what they need to know, and how and where to access new information that may lead to resolution of the problem.

PBL method gives a lot of benefit to student where we can see student will put full of effort to search and find out the information. PBL method is a learning process towards student centered. Student is responsible to their learning process and not depends only to teachers. What good about this method is student will work as a group and discuss to exchange their opinion about one topic. It is also develop communication skills of the student.

Teaching and learning for our education system right now must be change towards this PBL method according to the suitability of the topic. It is really help our student to be more responsible towards the learning process. Is not come to school and receive all what teachers give and not respond to the learning but managed to give opinion on a situation.
